The Best Substitutes of Chickpea
Chickpea balls are a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dish. Falafel can be put into a pita and covered with hummus or tahini.
Falafel may be made without chickpeas using edamame or black beans. Use grated carrots and zucchini. Try The Perfect Air Fryer Falafel if you have chickpeas.
Hummus can be seasoned with parsley, sun-dried tomatoes, or spicy sauce.
Instead of chickpeas, try white beans, black beans, or edamame (baby soybeans). Maybe you won't notice.
A delicious snack is roasted chickpeas with herbs and spices. Substitute fava beans, butter beans, black-eyed peas, or black beans for chickpeas. It's limitless!
Chickpeas give protein, fibre, and texture to a salad. Use pinto, navy, cannellini, or edamame instead of chickpeas (as I do in my recipe for Chicken, Kale, and White Bean Salad).
You may also add peanuts, pistachios, almonds, or pomegranate arils like in this Turkey, Walnut, and Pomegranate Salad.
Chickpeas are great in animal and plant-based stews. If they're not available, try cannellini, great northern, white kidney, or navy beans.
They're creamy and nutty like chickpeas. Black or pinto beans add a deeper taste to stews.
