McDonald's latest fall offering isn't pumpkin or maple-flavored. It's a nostalgic pleasure from the 1980s.

The flaky pastry filled with creamy cream cheese and topped with buttery streusel and vanilla drizzle returns on September 14.

McDonald's says the limited-time item is a "new spin" on a 1980s pastry.

It's the latest fast food chain to use nostalgia to attract customers. Pizza Hut reintroduced their 1990s logo.

McDonald's revives the McRib. Burger King temporarily lowered the Whopper's price.

The cheese Danish joins McDonald's McCafé bakery portfolio, launched in 2020 to boost morning sales. Cheese Danish is offered all day, like apple fritters, blueberry muffins, and cinnamon rolls.

McDonald's changed their breakfast offering to boost sales while rivals boosted theirs. Wendy's introduced french toast sticks as kids return back to school.

In the second quarter of 2022, morning business remained consistent, while lunch and evening sales fell due to higher menu pricing.

McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski claimed breakfast is its "strongest performing daypart" Change. Several years ago, there were issues about breakfast, he said.

Higher menu pricing and "discount options" on its regular menu and app drove growth at McDonald's US outlets open at least 13 months in the second quarter.

In recent years, McDonald's has been the best at anticipating and capitalising on customer trends, said GlobalData's Carmen Bryan.
